Sheesh! Seems like every time I sat down to blog today something would happen to prevent me. Oh well, it was a good day overall that included a trip to Ikea. What day can be bad when it has Ikea somewhere in it? I think the frenzy over the mega-store has passed. I went today about 2 p.m. and didn't curse myself for going in the middle of the day. It was quite pleasant. I got a shoe rack for the back door, two new tiny dog bowls for Belle that have crowns embossed on the bottom, a doggie placemat and two garbage cans for the kids' rooms. The only frustrating thing was I ended up in the depths of the building and tried to call Tyler. Didn't work so well. So I went over to the restaurant and stood by a window to get more bars. I think I described my location to him as "the belly of the beast." But he got the measurement I needed for the shoe rack. What a prince.
Tyler and I were supposed to go to the Oregon Historical Society today and see the Lincoln exhibit they have. Lincoln is Tyler's favorite president and he says it ISN'T because they share a birthday - lol. The exhibit has a signed copy of the Emancipation Proclamation as well as a letter from Lincoln to the powers that be in Oregon turning down their offer of governorship. I had no idea! When I was looking for the hours today I realized they're closed on Mondays. ARG. We'll go tomorrow.
Now for my pink and black news. The kids are going to change bedrooms this summer. A full year ahead of schedule. Austin has always complained that he got the small room. Well, he did. Amber's room is enormous. She got it because when we moved in this house, we knew Tyler's sister would be living with us for a while. Amber's room was more than big enough to accommodate the two of them. Two summers ago I painted their rooms on the condition that I wouldn't have to paint again for three more years. At that point, Austin would be entering high school and he could have the big room for all of high school. Well, Amber started complaining that her room was too big and too much of a hassle to keep clean. So they devised a plan - just switch and both of their problems would be taken care of.
I agreed (read: gave in) on the condition that they wait until after school is over AND they can only pick one color each for their room. No more stripes around the whole room (never doing that again) or walls with different colors. They are happy, happy, happy. Amber is so into pink and black and we have decided to go that route for her room. However, since her room is smaller, we have to sell her gigantic bed/desk/drawer system and get a regular bed and chest of drawers. Nothing around here can ever be as simple as just changing rooms. No siree - gotta make it painful. But she's excited and she wants me to make her a black and pink quilt for her bed and I can't wait. She's even started cleaning out her room :-)
Hopefully we'll have better luck at the museum on Tuesday. When I told Tyler it was closed today he literally yelled, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" It was funny. Gotta love a man who'll go to a museum and not complain about it.
